Mohammed Ali barrages are considered a monumental masterpiece. It is an open dam. It was designed to make irrigation annually by keeping water in fron barrages to taken by El-Rayah (El-Tawfeky - El-Menofy - El-Bahary) and deliver it to al Delta lands.
They set first brick in April 1843 in Mohammed Ali Basha age. It was opend on 30 August 1968. The barrages were built at the top of the Delta 22 kilometer from Cairo where the Nile branches into Dommiatta branch and Rasheed branch.
It consists of 71 openings twenty of them are closed and 49 for running water , each one five meters wide and two are 5.5m wide , one of the barrages is 12 X 8.65m. The road above the barrages is 8.65 meters wide.
It consists of 61 openings , 59 are 5 meters wide and two are 5.5 meters. There are two barrages 12X 8.65 meters The total width of road over barrages is 8.65 meters.
Mohammed Ali barrages were not sufficient to bear the increase in water in front of them . So new barrages were built starting from October 1936 to 1939 which are:
Consists of 34 openings , each is 8 meter wide and sailing barrages is 12 meter wide and 80 meter long.
Consisted of 46 openings, Each is 8 meter wide and sailing barrages is 12 meter wide and 8 meter long.
It includes irrigation means since pharohs age until now. It has three-dimensional Shapes for the High Dam and all the bridges built along the Nile.
Lately there was audio visual show giving an account about irrigation in Egypt since pharaohs age.
It was built in 1847 during Mohammed Ali epoch, after he had thought of building the barrages to regulate irrigation and take care of agriculture especially the Egyptian cotton which is known for its quality and resistance all over the world . He started to built a ginnery to enhance the industry of Egyptian cotton.
